Here’s a World Wide Web page to die for. The Texas State Cemetery in Austin goes online (www.cemetery.statetx.us) late this month, thanks to the General Services Commission. You can scan a list of the more than two thousand luminaries buried there, from father of Texas Stephen F. Austin to republic veteran W. P. Zuber, as well as the nearly one thousand living VIPs who have reserved plots. You can read biographies of two hundred of the cemetery’s occupants and even download pictures of them and their headstones (more bios and photos will be added in the coming months). By August you’ll be able to search by name and click on a three-dimensional map of the grounds to see who’s lying next to whom. And the database is current, so you can already mourn the passing of Barbara Jordan—the first African American interred in the cemetery—and Ralph Yarborough. All in all, it’s the ultimate grave site.
