Fess Parker

Fess Parker at UT.

Fess Parker One afternoon I was taking my girlfriend home after watching a double feature, and an intoxicated man ran into the back of my little 1921 Model T roadster. He pulled up beside me and cursed me out, and then I made the mistake of following him to his house. He cursed me again and stabbed me through my shoulder. I had twenty-some-odd veins severed, but I made him take me to the hospital. The good news was that I had been a Boy Scout and knew about pressure points, so I was able to hold enough blood in to get to the hospital. It affected me in the sense of, "How did I get into that predicament, and why did nothing really come of it?" So that's why I decided to go to law school at the University of Texas at Austin.

Fess Parker was born in Fort Worth and grew up in San Angelo. After graduating from UT with a bachelor’s degree in history and attending law school for one year, he moved to California. In 1955 he starred in the film Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, which made him an instant celebrity. He now lives in California, where he operates the Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley.
