On The Road

Top Of The Line We never need an excuse to hop in the car and drive to Round Top, but if we did, the assorted annual spring antiques festivals March 27-April 7 in this east central Texas hamlet would be the perfect reason. Part of the attraction is the chance of finding something incredibly valuable for a song (Antiques Roadshow, here we come). That hasn’t happened yet, but after wending our way through the hundred-plus booths lining the roads and sprawling out into the fields, we’re always hungry. The most popular restaurant in Round Top is undoubtedly Royers, which serves up homestyle dishes and great pie. When we don’t want to wait, we head to Landhaus Ramsey, a German-American spot just off the town square with good bratwurst and a front porch and Biergarten for relaxing. Sometimes we’re in the mood for a drive, in which case we head to Tex’s Barbecue in Brenham for tender brisket or the Lemon Tree Cafe in Bellville, a delightful place that appeals to ladies who lunch.
