SHAKE, RATTLE, AND ROLL When summertime playlists begin to sound like good elevator music and Paradise Hotel seems like quality TV programming, you know it's time for a change. And there's no better way to get rid of a funk than with some live tunes—rocking or otherwise. Check out the following music festivals this month, and go ahead, get your groove back. Navasota Blues Festival (August 15 and 16): Do some needed soul-searching at this two-day event held annually in memory of Navasota bluesman Mance Lipscomb (above). This year Mean Gene Kelton, Rob Roy Parnell, Tary Owens with Orange Jefferson, and others take the stage.Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Show(August 15 and 16): Bring your boots (steel guitar optional) to Carthage and honor this year's Hall of Fame inductees: Kris Kristofferson, Lefty Frizzell, and Johnny Bush. Not Fade Away: The Buddy Holly Music Festival and Symposium (August 28-31): Attend the panels, presentations, and performances celebrating the life and music of Lubbock's famous son, and stay through Sunday: That'll be the day when bands, ranging in sound from rockabilly and country to jazz and gospel, will play from morning till evening.Red River Radio Americana Music Festival (August 30): Jive to the Derailers, Peter Rowan, Jeannie Kendall, and others at this all-day festival in Nacogdoches that features a variety of homespun, heartfelt genres from bluegrass to honky-tonk. (See Navasota: Music/Dance; Nacodoches: Music/Dance; Carthage: Music/Dance; Lubbock: Music/Dance.)
