A Thyme to Remember: Generations of Recipes Handed Down for Today

A Thyme to Remember: Generations of Recipes Handed Down for Today (Favorite Recipes Press, 1999)

Good cooking often becomes a tradition among Texas families. Recipes handed down from grandparents, aunts and uncles, and mom and dad become classic family dishes for the generations that follow. The members of the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance (DCMSA) have taken some of their own favorite family recipes and included them in A Thyme to Remember.

In A Thyme to Remember, which offers more than two hundred recipes as diverse as the Texas population, you're sure to find a delicious dessert, a new vegetable dish, or a main entrée. Also included are recipes for appetizers and beverages, salads, breads and soups, brunch dishes, and cakes, cookies, and pies. The special recipes that have been "handed down" or are original to a member of the DCMSA, are identified by a hand icon on each page and include the following:

Saint Patrick's Day Corned Beef Casserole

Stilton Cheese Soufflé With Chives

South African Zulu Bobotie

Chocolate-Raspberry Coffee Cake

Ball Park Soft Pretzels

Spicy Baked Eggplant

Red Chile Enchiladas

Cauliflower and Peas With Ginger

Post Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

Wild Rice Soup

Old Nellie's Grits

Bouillabaisse Salad With Caviar Dressing

Marinated Dill Carrots

Kentucky Mint Tea

Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Bread

Gumdrop Bar Cookies

Godiva Chocolate Two-Minute Mousse

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the cookbook is the index of nutritional information in the back that outlines the approximate calories, fat, protein, carbohydrates, cholesterol, dietary fiber, and sodium per serving of each dish. For example, Salmon Mousse has 142 calories, Wild Rice Salad has 20 grams of protein, and Tomato Basil Santa Fe Pizza has 40 total fat grams.
