GOING BATTY
POW! Funny that during the winter, when Austin's famous colony of Mexican free-tailed bats has migrated to Mexico, allusions to the chiropterans take wing. On January 8, the Alamo Drafthouse, in Austin, will screen the original 1966 Batman movie, starring Adam West and Burt Ward. The Alamo hopes to show the film, which was released after the television series' first season, at a local cave; call ahead for the location. You can see the original Caped Crusaders in person January 9 and 10 at the Texas Superhero and Sci-Fi Collector's Expo, in Austin, where they will be signing autographs. Be sure to bring a camera so you can have your picture taken in front of the Batmobile. But holy synchronicity, there's more. On January 11, Stages Repertory Theatre, in Houston, closes Bat Boy: The Musical, a tale about a boy (half human and half bat) who is found in a cave, adopted by a veterinarian, and taught how to become a normal guy. When the 1.5 million flying mammals return to the Congress Avenue Bridge, will they encounter the Penguin? Tune in this spring, same bat time, same bat channel.
