For Such a Time as This doesn't claim to be chock-full of original recipes. What you will find is a good mix of unusual items and old favorites—dishes you know will taste good like Wonderful Lasagna, Asparagus Chicken, Baked Potato Soup, Elegant Broccoli and Walnuts, and Honey-Glazed Baby Carrots.
The cookbook is divided into eight chapters, including one devoted solely to cakes: Apricot Nectar Cake, Lemon Raspberry Cake, Coconut Cake, Honey Bun Cake, Italian Cream Cake, and Peppermint Chocolate Cheesecake, to name a few. If you are planning a party, you'll find the Menus section most helpful. Special occasions from A Plantation Easter to A Mid-Morning Mother's Tea offer carefully selected dishes sure to make a hit with your guests.
In addition to the short and easy-to-follow recipes, there are some fairly curious ones, including the Dr. Pepper Meat Loaf and another soft drink-based dish, the Cola Cake, which has cola in both the mix and the frosting. You'll come across some interesting names, too, like the Heavenly Goo Pie, a dessert that is actually served frozen (not baked). The Bible verses interspersed throughout the book seem fitting for a cookbook published by the Park Cities Baptist Church.
Proceeds from the sale of For Such a Time As This benefit the Park Cities Baptist Church's building fund to help construct a new $32 million Community Life Center.
