The Art Guys, also known as Jack Massing and Michael Galbreth, have been creating conceptual art together exclusively since 1983. They have done everything from leasing ad space on Todd Oldham–designed business suits (which they wore for a year) to offering up bronze busts of themselves—for $1 million—to be filled with their future cremains. “That’s a bargain,” says Galbreth. “It comes with a framed legal document.” This month they unveil the Statue of Four Lies, a commissioned plaza for the University of Houston, their alma mater. The men work at least five days a week in their North Houston studio and share just about everything in the warehouse-like space, including a bathroom that’s decorated with a fishing motif. Besides art, angling is a favorite pastime that regularly takes the pair to Galveston Bay.
