Senior Editor John Spong’s story “Untitled Mike Flynt Project” was selected to appear in the upcoming edition of THE BEST AMERICAN SPORTS WRITING. The book is to be published in October 2009.

Editor Brian D. Sweany was selected to serve as a founding member of the board of advisor's for the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas, in Denton.

Executive Editor Patricia Sharpe was nominated as a James Beard Foundation Awards 2009 finalist in the category of Magazine Feature Writing Without Recipes for her May 2008 issue cover story, “BBQ 08.”

Senior Editor Karen Olsson's April 2008 story "The Final Frontier" was selected for inclusion in Harper Collins Best American Sports Writing, to be published in September 2009.

Senior Editor Nate Blakeslee participated in a University of Texas Journalism School conference examining investigative journalism’s changing role in maintaining democracy on March 27, 2009.

President and Editor in Chief Evan Smith was interviewed on the “Idea Lounge” program on Austin’s KOOP radio station, discussing the culture scene in Texas. The program aired in two parts on March 19 and March 26, 2009.

Texas Monthly and the Baker Institute hosted a panel discussion “Life After Ike; the Future of Houston and Galveston,” on March 11, 2009. Panelists included Houston Mayor Bill White, Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas, Edward Djerejian and Joan Schann of the Baker Institute, and Texas Monthly Senior Executive Editor Paul Burka. This event was part of the Texas Monthly Live! series.
