Decriminalize possession and use of marijuana. Texans will then be able to regulate, tax, and control its distribution and sourcing. The result: Eliminate 50 percent from the bottom line of the murderous drug cartels, undermining their ability to destabilize Texas’s biggest trading partner and terrorize the citizens of the U.S./Mexico border; reduce the state’s burden related to enforcement and imprisonment; take away the lure of the black market for children and teens while emphasizing, as with alcohol and tobacco, strict controls and preventive education; and provide tax revenue that can be spent on education, treatment, and prevention.
