Paul Hobby, Texas Monthly’s chairman and CEO, today announced the appointments of Tim Taliaferro as executive vice president and editor in chief and Scott Brown as chief creative officer.

Taliaferro had previously served as the vice president for communications and digital strategy for Texas Exes, the alumni association serving the University of Texas, and the editor in chief of Alcalde, UT’s award-winning alumni magazine. Under Taliaferro’s leadership, the communications arm of the Texas Exes has expanded to include video, interactive media, television, and podcasting. He supervised the association’s website, bi-monthly print publication, social media, creative services, media relations, and video production. A native of San Antonio, Taliaferro earned his bachelor’s degree in history and Plan II at UT and his master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern’s Medill School.

Scott Brown was previously president and chief creative officer of The Company of Others, a marketing and innovation firm based in Houston, and he led creative and business-transformation initiatives for clients including McDonalds, Phillips 66, and Direct Energy. Prior to founding The Company of Others, Scott was the digital creative director at Barkley, a Kansas City–based advertising agency. A Houston native, Brown holds a bachelor of arts in management and French from Rice University.

“I am thrilled to announce the appointment of both Tim and Scott,” says Hobby, whose private equity firm, Genesis Park, purchased Texas Monthly earlier this year. “I believe they are the perfect individuals to lead our brand forward, particularly in the areas of digital journalism and live events.”

Hobby also announced that Erin Beil would become controller. Beil will be responsible for all accounting operations, including managing the complete revenue cycle, implementing processes and procedures, and financial reporting. Prior to joining Texas Monthly, she was controller for Austin-based HotSchedules.com. Beil also served as controller of SaaS company Model Metrics pre- and post-acquisition by Salesforce.com and as a senior auditor at Arthur Andersen and Grant Thornton. A native of New Mexico, Beil holds a bachelor’s of accountancy from New Mexico State University.
