Some questionable commerical activity was recently uncovered in West Texas when 26-year-old Lubbock woman founded Fantasy Maid Service, which hires out maids who will “buff in the buff,” as the Austinist put it.
Melissa Borett, who started the business a month ago, swears the business’ focus is not sexual. “I run a maid service,” she explained to the Associated Press. “We really just clean houses. These girls are not performers. They’re maids.” The service has three maids on staff and Borett said that they would also agree to clean while clothed, though the prices ($100 an hour and up) remain the same. “It is kind of pricey, but we’re fantasy maids,” she said.
But Lubbock police disagree with the nature of Borett’s business, and hold that Fantasy Maid Service is a sexually-oriented business and need to obtain a special permit. They are currently monitoring the service for violations.
(Maybe Borett simply heard of “Working Day,” a mock holiday created by Dallas-based business consultant Lisa Kanarek that is “dedicated to those who are working from home ‘naked’ — stripped of the resources that millions take for granted in the traditional corporate workplace,” UPI reported.)

Nude Tech Jobs
Longtime nudist Chris Taylor, 63, has made his naked lifestyle converge with the cold tech industry. Four years ago he founded Nude House in Buckinghamshire, England, becoming one of the first workplaces in the world where naturists could work a conventional job in an atypical office environment. Employees must “undress to impress” at the company, as all clothing is banned. Most of the company’s business is conducted online, so their customers aren’t even aware of the employees’ disrobed state, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
An ad for for female web-coders garnered some media attention for the company last year. “”We have got a number of males and only one female, so we are trying to find more females to balance the numbers,” Taylor explained.
Nude Yoga
Do spandex yoga pants leave you feeling too covered? Then naked yoga might be for you. This activity that blends strength-building, spirituality, relaxation, and nudity has been growing in popularity since the late ’90s. In March, Gawker was shocked by news that a studio in Park Slope had begun offering a mens-only naked yoga class.
Classes are offered in other big cities across the country, including Los Angeles, Austin, and Salt Lake City—all (hopefully) taught by certified instructors.
Nude Philanthropy
(No, this is not a shady Craigslist euphemism.) Two months ago, a crew of five female rowers crossed the Atlantic Ocean at record speed in order to raise money for anti-human trafficking organizations based in the UK. Their recipe for success included athleticism, strength, stamina, and nakedness. “We spent a lot of time rowing naked because when the sea water gets inside your clothes, it increases friction against your skin which can cause sores,” explained the skipper, Debbie Beadle.
She told reporters that “the motivation to achieve something notable for such a worthy cause far outweighed any inhibitions that she or the crew may have held,” CNN reported.
