Scientists at the Alan G. MacDiarmid NanoTech Institute, at the University of Texas at Dallas, have developed an artificial muscle that is lighter than air, stronger than stainless steel, and more elastic than rubber. I think it’s time to channel more resources to Texas’ scientific-research institutes like the Nano-Tech Institute, which is at the forefront of nanotechnology. The NanoTech Institute has a “NanoExplorer” program, which engages high school students in research, getting the next generation of Texas scientists started early. I dream of these young people working at world-class research institutes in Texas and of these research institutes producing Nobel laureates.
Johnson is a longtime congresswoman from Dallas and the highest-ranking Texan on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 2001 to 2002.
