Plano, Texas is about to get a solid barbecue option. Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ joint, Lockhart Smokehouse has announced plans to expand. The original location opened in 2011 in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff has seen their business grow to a point where owners Jill and Jeff Bergus thought it was time to grow. They are being forced to close for a few hours between lunch and dinner service nearly every day because of the high demand since the Top 50 list was released. This means more Kreuz Market sausage (Lockhart Smokehouse imports it from Kreuz Market in Lockhart) for the Dallas area.

The new location is right off the DART line in old downtown Plano at 1026 E. 15th Street. Lockhart Smokehouse Plano will take over half of the Sutton Place furniture store. The store is now trying to move some inventory so demolition can begin. Now we just need to hope that the same quality can be maintained at the second location. There’s no word on who the pitmaster will be or when it will open. A press release just says “before the end of the year”, but you can bet we’ll be there as soon as it does.
