The Texas Monthly Barbecue Festival is coming up this Sunday, but it’s been sold out since a few hours after tickets went on sale. There’s still a way to attend for just $35. Here’s the official explanation:

NEW IN 2013: A limited quantity of Walk Up tickets may be available for purchase at the Long Center Box Office starting at 3:00pm the day of the festival. Walk Up tickets provide LATE ADMISSION to the TMBBQ Fest from 3pm – 5pm; however admission does not guarantee sampling will be available at all participating restaurant and vendor booths. Walk Up tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and the number of tickets available for sale will vary based on venue capacity.

What that means is that plenty of attendees come at noon, stuff their faces for a few hours, and leave. That means the venue will no longer be at capacity, so the Fire Marshal says we can let more hungry barbecue fans in. Think of it as being fashionably late. The good news is that most every pitmaster’s table will be line-free and ripe for the picking. The bad news is that some of the most popular joints might be out of food by then. Either way, it’s a good deal compared to the $75 or $135 ticket options that are already history.

If you don’t want to wait until 3:00 to eat on Sunday, you can always head down to San Antonio to Meatopia Texas at the Pearl Brewery. Tickets are still available for this meaty extravaganza.
