TEXAS MONTHLY SAYS: Trophies from local Little League teams are usually a sign of quality barbecue, and Zimmerhanzel’s is equipped with both.
BBQ SNOB SAYS: 2009: When we visited, the restaurant was nearly empty minus the furry creatures keeping us company. As we ate, we realized that nearly everyone got their meat to go, and most folks required large cardboard boxes to carry everything out the door. Brisket, ribs, and sausage were on the menu for us. Fat dripped from the moist all-beef sausage, which had flecks of pepper that added a kick to the smokiness. The tender moist ribs were huge and meaty; a deep red color ran throughout the smoky meat, which was covered by a dark red crust and a heavy salt and pepper rub. The brisket was also moist and tender, with a substantial smoke line and deep smokiness despite a measly crust. There wasn’t a bad bite on the plate.
