The Des Moines Register poll
This is the first poll taken this year by Iowa’s leading newspaper. It was published tonight (Saturday).
Mitt Romney 23%
Michele Bachmann 22%
Herman Cain 10%
Newt Gingrich 7%
Ron Paul 7%
Tim Pawlenty 6%
Rick Santorum 4%
John Huntsman 2%
Neither Sarah Palin nor Rick Perry was included in the poll. Palin is scheduled to campaign in Iowa this week. Pawlenty has campaigned heavily in Iowa without a lot to show for his efforts. He is the big loser tonight.
The obvious question is whether, when two clear front-runners in Iowa have captured almost half the vote, there is any room for a relatively unknown candidate like Perry to carve out a constituency. Romney and Bachmann have campaigned heavily and have spent a lot of money in the state. What Perry has going for him is that he is a fresh face in a field of familiar faces. But the clock is ticking, and he is starting from behind. And Iowa is just one state, albeit an important one. I just don’t know if he has enough time to do all the things necessary to be competitive in the race for the Republican nomination. Consider, too, that Iowa is a caucus state, and caucus states are much harder to organize (as Hillary Clinton found out) than states that have more traditional electoral processes. I do not underestimate Perry, but it is realistic to say that he faces formidable obstacles in building an organization capable of making a national race.

Perry would pull some votes from Bachmann, some from Romney, and a few from everybody else maybe? I just don’t think the country will elect another Texas Governor right now, even if Republicans nominate one. V.P. at best and on the ballot to secure Southern Sates electoral votes and satisfy the Tea Party but the same people also like Bachmann.

I can’t imagine the American public falling for Perry the way our braindead Texas electorate has. One must have faith in people. Pery and/or Bachmann are just not electable. Romney….maybe.

The only reason Perry runs – or doesn’t – is to be the GOP VP nominee. Is it more likely for him to be VP nominee if he runs or if he doesn’t? The VP nomination is his next stepping stone. It gets him out on a national ticket to build name ID for a later run (2016). He’s been angling for that slot since he endorsed Giuliani. His bad bet resulted in reneging on his deal with KBH so he could stay on the stage for this opportunity. The calculus now is what is most likely to get the eventual presidential nominee (probably Romney) to ask him to join him on the ticket.

His competition is Bachmann, Pawlenty, Huckabee, and Palin. If you’re Romney, who is most likely to appeal to the folks you need to get revved up. (I don’t want Perry, by the way. I’m just telling you what I think he’s up to. And if you don’t like my theory, what makes you think the GOP would prefer a presidential nominee from Texas more so than a VP nominee?)

from robert pear’s article in today’s NYT: “Access to care has been a concern in Massachusetts, which provides coverage under a state program cited by many in Congress as a model for President Obama’s health care overhaul.
“In a recent study, the Massachusetts Medical Society found that 53 percent of family physicians and 51 percent of internal medicine physicians were not accepting new patients. I don’t know what he will do if someone asks him to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, but I’m sure he will think of something.
His problem will be, I think, with his sacrifice of education (in his severely undereducated state) on the altar of self promotion. That’s not just political expediency; that’s mean-spirited, short-sighted, and cynical. Mr Bush got away with a similar stunt to become President, but I don’t think he ever quite despised his fellow Texans. With time, it will become clear what a disaster this legislative year has been for the Lone Star State.

There is an interesting discussion regarding the possible Castro – Doggett congressional race being led by a Castro paid consultant and someone else from SAT on another blog. There are two serious bits of misinformation being posted.
1. Hispanic opportunity district does NOT mean it is drawn for a hispanic to win. It means it is drawn for hispanics to determine the winner; which may be anglo, black, hispanic or some other ethnicity as is the case in districts, counties and precincts all across Texas.
2. The person representing the district has to look like the people who make up the majority of the district. WRONG. Does that mean that the other 40% of the people are out of luck.
Some serious racial and ethnic campaigning already occurring in that race. One would hope we have progressed beyond that. Very sad.

There are a lot of people in Texas who do not want to see Rick Perry as president. Perhaps not a majority of Texans, but a small group of activists who can sting him hard to a national audience, especially in a primary.
I have found that most folks OUTSIDE of Texas just watch FOX and listened to Rush Limbaugh and nothing of the things of Rick Perry – especially negative – that people on this blog do. Start telling them about toll roads, HPV vaccine mandate and Todd Willingham and their eyes open.
I predict if Perry runs, he will be annihilated. Here is some stuff “rightwingers” might not like about him:
Rick Perry’s record:
• Toll Roads and Trans Texas Corridor – Is it socialism, fascism or communism? Toll roads are gargantuan debt time bombs and a whopping TAX on consumers. Rick Perry has instituted a huge tax increase in Texas in the form of toll roads; going from zero debt on roads to $30 billion in toll road debt in 10 years as Perry sells off Texas’ public infrastructure. (2003-2011)
• Was Democrat Al Gore’s campaign chairman 1988 – for all of Texas. Then Karl Rove recruited Perry to switch parties so Perry could win Agricultural Commissioner as a Republican.
• Business Margins Tax – backdoor state income tax (2006)
• HPV vaccine mandate – Attack on parental rights. Tried to make every 12 year old girl in Texas forced to take Gardisil shots because his former Chief of Staff Mike Toomey is a lobbyist for Merck. (2007)[this is a BIG one]
• FLDS El Dorado raid – Religious Oppression and attack on parental rights, traumatizes 438 children and their parents; out of control Child Protective Services raid based on crank phone call; breaks up dozens of families (2008)
• Defeats Steven Wayne Smith – makes robo phone calls against most conservative Supreme Court judge in modern Texas history. Smith was the equivalent of Robert Bork (2004)
• Vetoes Texas Eminent Domain Bill – taking your land for a toll road more important than signing property rights protection overwhelmingly passed by Legislature. (2007)
• Supports Sobriety Check Points! Unconstitutional trashing of YOUR 4th Amendment rights where everyone is pulled over with no probable cause and no reasonable suspicion. (Perry supported SB 298 bill) 2009
• Signs Hate Crimes bill — Attack on free speech and creates thought crimes, includes sexual orientation as a class! (2001)
• Globalist bootlicker – Bilderberger toady (2007). For United Nations, NAFTA, CAFTA, Trans Texas Corridor.
• Governor for NINE years, then reads about the 10th Amendment a few years ago. (2009)
• Supports No Child Left Behind Act and Dept. of Education (Hey, is the federal government running your local school in the Constitution? Fine with Rick Perry.)
• Endorses liberal cross dresser and gun grabber Rudy Guiliani for President (2008) – tells his good friend Mike Huckabee I love you like a brother, but you can’t win so I am going with gun grabber Rudy Julie Annie, he’s a sure thing! The Bilderbergers said I can be VP if I grovel enough and am for toll roads, globalism, open borders, big government and, of course, the Federal Reserve.
• Token opposition to illegal immigration – probably because the illegals will be building all his toll roads!
• Does not stand up for elected State Board of Education every time it gets castrated by the liberals in the legislature (2000s). Throws crumbs to conservatives on SBOE, but when they really need him, hides under desk, sticks fingers in ears. (2009) Did not veto SBOE redistricting map which was designed to castrate conservatives. (2011).
• Instituted state CHIP program for Texas!, a widely abused program and one more step to socialized medicine, more taxes and rationed healthcare. (Hey, is CHIP in the 10th Amendment?)
• Texas Enterprise Fund – basically, Rick Perry’s slush fund for politically connected insiders, another WASTE of your tax dollars. Gave $20 Million to Country Wide Financial which went bankrupt. Big Government + Big Business = Fascism.
• Supports $5 titty bar tax on every patron of a strip club – Wife Anita also supports it. Wife Anita on salary for $65,000/year at the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault and titty bar tax is their #1 legislative agenda item. TAASA receives state money already and wants to get grubby hands on titty bar tax. Titty bar tax ruled unconstitutional by lower courts. (2010)
• Refused to stay the death sentence of Cameron Todd Willingham – Willingham had been convicted of murdering his family via an arson determination that was based on junk science. Even worse, Perry later removed 3 members of board of the Texas Forensic Science Commission that was investigating the case and put political pressure on the head of the panel (2009)
• Supported whopping $3 Billion Cancer BONDS, the Lance Armstrong cancer tax – more taxing, borrowing and spending. (2007). For Texas borrowing money to go into the cancer research business.
• Tries to intimidate FEMALE state trooper who pulls him over for speeding while he was lieutenant governor, telling her “Why don’t you just let us get on down the road?” as she was writing him a ticket. (1999)
• Tells a Houston tv reporter Ted Oberg “Adios, mofo.” (2005)
• Wants to use Texas Teacher and State Employee Retirement Money on risky TOLL ROADS! http://www.texasmonthly.com/blogs/burkablog/?p=4969 ing

This does not belong on your list. It’s an enhancement, similar to the numerous other enhancements that we have in law based on intent of the perpetrator expressing our values as Texans. What the Clintons DID do was nearly murder Gennifer Flowers’ neighbor Gary Johnson on 6/26/92. They sent 3 state troopers to beat him to a pulp bec/ Gary Johnson had a security camera video VHS of Bill often entering Gennifer’s condo. The Clintons and Buddy Young may have murdered Jerry Parks on 9/26/93 to cover up Bill’s role in CIA drug smuggling or possibly over Parks’ voluminous files on Bill’s women.
