Taylor makes his decision
He’s not running for CD 14 (the former Ron Paul seat). He’ll run for Mike Jackson’s Senate seat if Jackson runs for Congress. If Jackson doesn’t run for Congress, Taylor will run for reelection to the House
Taylor was going to have a hard time vs. SREC member Michael Truncale, a former SREC member, and former congressman Steve Stockman. Chris Peden, a former Friendswood city council member, is also considered to be a likely entrant. Friendswood is a rich source of votes in northern Galveston County.
As I noted in an earlier post, if Taylor remains in the House, he has to be considered as a potential rival to Straus.

Taylor will make a great Senator. Especially compared to Jackson.
And Taylor (despite what his consultant Todd Smith tells him) has no chance as Speaker. The votes aren’t there. He will have no D support and cannot get 76 R votes.

Taylor is a nice guy, but he’s such a TLR puppet. It’s probably another reason why he didn’t run for Congress–he won’t have their money for a congressional run.

Stockman is “closer to the base”?!?! Did you start drinking as soon as you woke up? Stockman couldn’t even get 500 signatures to get on the ballot in 2006. The guy guy is less like a candidate and more like some bad hacking cough you’re glad the doctor cured.

Larry is too lazy to even bite his nails, but he’ll be a less-obvious “floor snoozer” than Jackson. In the Texas Senate, that’s progress!!

Taylor will run for state senate if Jackson runs for Congress.
If Taylor stays put, he will not challenge Straus. But he’s the odds on favorite to succeed him, which will happen either if (1) Straus’s support craters or (2) it’s the 2015 Session (Straus agreed to serve no longer than Craddick).

Doubt that Larry Taylor can win the GOP nomination for Senator. His little ‘Bahama Mama’ adventure during the special session will not sit well with primary voters; along with his selling TWIA policies – scummy, scummy.

So wait, now Republican Primary voters think government should be in the insurance business (TWIA)?

Stockman deterred Taylor from running ? this is up there with your prediction last fall of the Democrats holding Harris County. Liberals have a hard time pretending to be neutral spectators

I don’t recall saying that Stockman deterred Taylor from running. I did say that Stockman was closer to the base than Taylor is, and I stand by that.
