A trip down Memory Lane
A new CNN/Opinion Research survey finds Rick Perry leading Mitt Romney in the GOP presidential race by double-digits, 32% to 21%, with Ron Paul at 13% and all other candidates in single digits.
Most interesting is that Perry’s biggest strength may be the electability factor, with 42% saying he has the best chance of beating President Obama next year. Some 26% say Romney has the best chance of defeating the president.
Said pollster Keating Holland: “That may go a very long way toward explaining his rise in the polls, since three-quarters of all Republicans say they would prefer a candidate who can beat President Obama over one who agrees with them on major issues.”

Chester says:
Perry to End Bid for Presidency
By JEFF ZELENY
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is poised to end his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, according to two Republicans close to Mr. Perry, a decision that comes two days before the South Carolina primary.
Mr. Perry will not participate in the debate here on Thursday evening, an aide said, and will make the announcement to supporters and contributors in South Carolina at an 11 a.m. press conference. He had been aggressively campaigning across the state, hoping that the first Southern primary would revive his candidacy.
It was the second time that Mr. Perry had signaled that he would leave the race. After a poor showing in the Iowa caucuses two weeks ago, Mr. Perry said that he was returning to Texas to reassess his campaign, but he decided to press ahead in South Carolina.
It was unclear whether Mr. Perry would endorse one of his Republican rivals before the South Carolina primary on Saturday. Mr. Perry was in the single digits in recent polls here, but his withdrawal from the race could impact the outcome of the primary by giving conservative voters one fewer alternative. He had been appealing heavily to South Carolina’s evangelical voters.
The decision of Mr. Perry, which was first reported by CNN, narrows the Republican field to four candidates.

Guess we never got never got his Texas charm up here in Yankeeland! Glad he’s back in Texas. The only person up here that seemed to like him was Donald Trump.

Perry has halted his bid for the presidency. He made that decision yesterday. But he is announcing it today.

Its ironic that Perry is surrendering on Confederate Heroes Day. We can now expect to see him bury his colors in the Rio Grande and cross into Mexico to fight for Emperor Maxmillian.

How about this one from June 9th, 2011: “Newt Gingrich’s campaign implodes. Enter Rick Perry?”
About this time, Burka was referring to the “late Newt Gingrich” in his blog as we chuckled.

The pundits – including me – don’t know what the hell they are talking about. I say thank God for that.
Let the voters decide. I just hope Jesus has a score to settle with Newt Gingrich.

The Perry/Newt team is surging in SC, quick have ABC do a hit peice on Newt.
If I was a dem I’d be afraid too, how can Pres Obama win on his record?

Perry is going to quit today and endorse the candidate who’s campaign staff he stole, then that candidate is going to quit before his ex airs his dirty laundry on national TV.

@ Honeybadger
I believe you also predicted an LSU win over Bama.
Last time I looked LSU offense couldn’t even cross midfield, and the LSU defense was tramatized.
The Obama team can expect the same results in 2012.
