Combs endorses Dewhurst

Short take: Late. to. the. party.

Having already taken a hard right turn, she tries to move back to the middle. By the time she decides which office to run for, she’s going to be dizzy from all the twists and turns she has taken.

Since it looks like Dewhurst will be back in Austin next session, Combs might as well make nice. Dan Patrick too. Can’t hurt if they have to deal with him again. And if he goes to D.C., nothing lost.

That is why those pro life groups are all for Dewhurst. They have to pay back favors and at the same time protect themselves next session with Dewhurst/Perry.

But *saying* you are for a candidate is not the same as busting your butt for a candidate.

she had already endorsed previously. Your irresponsible reporting is getting tiresome. The fact the Dewhurst folks asked her to do an event five days out doesn’t mean she was late to the party…it means the Dewhurst folks asked her to do an event five days out.

Hey Cow Droppings, If Combs already endorsed it must have been a “secret endorsement”, I never heard of it. Patricks endorsement helps, but I don’t think Combs does. Nonetheless, she is one crazy unpredictable Lady who has more potential to self destruct than any R out there. Reggie Bashurs absence is evident. He was a class act and smart guy.

If I was Dewhurst, I would have paid big money to Combs to not endorse me. What an incompetent wreck she has been. I read the Peter Principle years ago. She fits the mold perfectly.

Burka do you check on anything before you post it? Dewhurst folks asked HER last minute. She’s already maxed out a personal contribution months ago and offered to help Dew with whatever he needed months ago. Why do you immediately jump to put the blame on her when you yourself have made note of the Dewhurst campaign’s incompetency?

A campaign contribution and a public endorsement are not the same thing.

How many voters do you think have nothing better to do than sift through pages of FEC filings to figure out what politicians gave money to each other?

If The Dew loses (Heaven help us, no!)and stays Lt. Governor it will not hurt Patrick to have a “friendly” Lt. Governor for a change. He wins either way….I never thought he was that smart but…

“In March 2010, a student performance of the play Corpus Christi by Terrence McNally, in which Jesus and the disciples are portrayed as being gay, was canceled at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas following a condemnatory statement by Dewhurst. The university had received many complaints about the play’s scheduled performance as a class project for a directing class, but in a letter posted on the university’s website on March 11, President F. Dominic Dottavio, citing freedom of speech, declared that the play would be performed.[12] The day before the performance, Dewhurst issued his statement saying, “No one should have the right to use government funds or institutions to portray acts that are morally reprehensible to the vast majority of Americans,” and the performance was cancelled by the professor, who cited safety concerns. A subsequent statement by Dewhurst praised the university for canceling the performance, whereas the professor claimed to have acted on his own. Dewhurst’s statement also claimed that whereas he is “a strong defender of free speech, we must also protect the rights and reasonable expectations of Texas taxpayers and how their money is used. A play that is completely contrary to the standards of decency and moral beliefs of the vast majority of Texans should not be performed using any state resources, especially by an institution of higher learning.”

    Okay.

Question: would David Dewhurst supported a flaming homosexual for PRESIDENT OF THE USA? A queer who is not just gay, but Liberace/Elton John gay, NY/San Francisco bathhouse gay? Airport bathroom stall glory hole gay? Is someone whose addiction to unhinged, promiscuous gay sex and hilarious Craigslist adventures & fairy prostitutes a proper choice to represent “the standards of decency and values” that the vast majority of Texans and Americans hold (or claim to hold)?

    I am just wondering.

I have been a 3 time delegate to the Texas state Republican convention, 4 time delegate to the GOP SD 14 convention, I an accurately report that the Texas Republican party, it’s platforms and its politicians make generous & continual use of “family values” “Texas values” “morals” “Christianity” “Jesus” “traditional marriage” “defend the Boy Scouts” rail against “sodomy” “keep gays out of the military” rail against “radical homosexuals” make “adultery” a political issue, cluck their tongues about the perverted behavior of Bill Clinton, John Edwards & the Kennedys, say that “sexual conduct is a deep reflection of a person’s character” fight against the “War on Christmas” opposed the “secular agenda” and think there is “no separation of church & state” … as political issues.

When one attends a GOP meeting, big or small, one gets a heavy dose of prayers, invocations, appeals to all of the above issues. And that does not even count the prayer breakfasts.

Sometimes they pray for Obama, but of the time they just pray to win.

    Reporting from the frontlines,

If you, sir, have been an elected delegate as often as you state, we are indeed screwed up. It appears that those now involved in the political process are slimeball attorneys, people living off of Daddy’s money, and the luckiest businessmen in the world who now think they are MENSA candidates. I take it you live off of your family’s money, get an erection reading sordid, unsubstantiated, paperbacks, and chose to steal space from TM to broadcast your bullshit instead of starting your own blog. You are the last person I would turn to for sound advice on any subject, much less who to vote for.

First of all, Combs is a moderate Republican and if you need any more proof of who the moderate is in this race just look at who she is supporting. Secondly, Combs’ son works for Dewhurst, so I’m sure that didn’t influence her decision at all. Ha.

The Dan Patrick endorsement interests me more than the Combs endorsement (especially if the Combs endorsement is not new, as suggested in the comments). Did Dan Patrick and The Dew cut a deal — Patrick’s endorsement for a committee chairmanship next session?

That assumes, of course, that both Patrick and Dewhurst think Cruz will win Tuesday, and Dewhurst will preside over the Senate next session. If they read the polls I’m reading, that’s what they’d think. Does anyone have any late intelligence on the Cruz-Dewhurst polls?

    Spiro Eagleton Reply:

There are reports that Dewhurst has internal polls showing him down by 6 points. I haven’t seen them personally, so I can’t vouch for them, but that seems to be in keeping with everything we have seen publicly thus far. Cruz is having a big rally tonight in the Houstona area with all the big guns of the Tea Party movement – Palin, DeMint, Glenn Beck, etc. Whether you like them or not, those folks carry a lot of weight in a conservative GOP primary run-off. Dewhurst counters with an endorsement by moderate Susan Combs and a carpet bombing TV ad campaign geared towards a general election audience that WILL NOT be taking part in this primary run-off.

Paul, are you saying that people in Texas who have ambition for higher statewide office, and who can only run for higher statewide office if the Lt Gov wins and opens up that seat, are endorsing the Lt Gov over Cruz?

    Wow. That’s amazing!
