Damn Right Texas Is a Hockey State

Dick Armey knows who Sidney Crosby is. Buffalo-raised CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer doesn’t. Case closed.

The exchange, which begins with Armey joking that the Clinton campaign should seek out an endorsement from the Pittsburgh Penguins star, begins at 1:42

Blitzer: “I thought he was talking about Bill Cosby”

Mind you, Dick, Sidney Crosby’s only the most popular person in PA on one side of the state. Also, he’s not American (but maybe that would balance out Obama’s Arcade Fire support).

Oh, and did you know Sidney’s cousin Forbes MacPherson is an assistant coach here? MacPherson and his boss Dan Wildfong’s Texas Brahmas (formerly the Fort Worth Brahmas, now skating in North Richland Hills) took a must-win Game 3 from the Colorado Eagles tonight. From Kelly Morris of the Star-Telegram:

“I’ve heard the Brahmas have been doing good,” said Crosby, whose mother, Trina, is the youngest sister to MacPherson’s mom, Sandra. “I hope they keep surprising a lot of people.”

Even though there’s a 15-year age difference between MacPherson and Crosby, Crosby has always looked up to MacPherson. Summers were designated for family get-togethers. MacPherson would bring his extra hockey sticks from his minor league hockey season to his parent’s house in Prince Edward Island. Crosby, then 12, couldn’t wait to get his hands on them.

“I wanted to feel like a pro,” said the 20-year-old Crosby. “I remember seeing his name on the sticks. It was more the way he treated me. He would hang out with me. I was so interested in his hockey. I probably bored him with all my questions.”…

MacPherson follows Crosby’s career closely. They keep in contact mainly through text messages.

“We’re pretty much like any normal Canadian family where everybody is involved in hockey,” MacPherson said. “I text him no more or no less than my other cousins. If he was the fourth liner for the Montreal Canadians, I’d still feel the same pride. I still see him as a little kid who just loves hockey. I just hope he continues to love the game.”
