Beauty School Dropout
I never watch Larry King Live because I’m always too busy watching anything else. But I just had to check out the transcript from Wednesday’s show because apparently former Miss California and porn queen Carrie Prejean was whining about how conservative women are constantly attacked by the liberal media. She’s so right. I can’t think of any female Democrat who endured constant media scrutiny except OH WAIT A MINUTE HILLARY CLINTON. Carrie Prejean discussed the pain and suffering of being Carrie Prejean in her new book, “Still Standing, The Untold Story of My Fight Against Gossip, Hate, and Political Attacks.” Wow. What courage. What bravery. What bullshit.
KING: You characterize yourself as being Palinized. What do you mean?
PREJEAN: Well, you look at Sarah Palin and Congresswoman, you know, Michele Bachmann, they are relentlessly, you know, torn down by the liberal media. I mean, they’re wonderful women. They’re intelligent. They’re great mothers. They’re brilliant. And yet there’s this double standard that conservative women are fair game to be attacked. And it’s not right. And it needs to stop.
KING: Doesn’t the conservative media tear down liberal politicians?
PREJEAN: Not to the extent that liberals do to conservative women. I think that they get away with it. If you look at Keith Olbermann, for instance, I talk about it in my book, some of the things that he says on his show about conservatives, if Sean Hannity or if Bill O’Reilly said anything like that about a liberal woman, like Sonia Sotomayor or Michelle Obama, he would be off the air. And there is this double standard and Americans are now exposed to it.
KING: But the conservative media commentators denounced Sonia Sotomayor as a racist, Hillary Clinton as a bitch and a liar. Laura Ingraham recently accused Nancy Pelosi of having done everything but sell her own body to get the health bill passed. You must condemn things like that.
PREJEAN: Look at the things that they said about Sarah Palin and her children. I mean, it’s unbelievable. The attacks are still coming. And, you know, when they’re not happy with the message, Larry, what do they do? They attack the messenger.
KING: Well, you don’t see that it happens on both sides?
PREJEAN: I think that it’s important for women to stick together. I think that’s the biggest thing. And I think that there definitely is this bias against conservative women. It’s fair game. And if they don’t like what you have to say, they have to attack your personal life. And that’s what we’ve been seeing. It’s very consistent.
Now I’m all for conservative women sticking together. That way they won’t be around me. OMG! So we have a beauty pageant queen making the media rounds to represent The Persecuted like psychotic Michele Bachmann. It’s so surreal. I mean, if anyone’s been oppressed, it’s liberal women. It’s just that we can fight for ourselves. Anyway, I thought Christians were supposed to turn the other cheek. At least that’s what the nuns told us when they slapped us around.
OK, here’s my favorite part.
PREJEAN: Sarah Palin is my hero.
KING: Oh, she is?
PREJEAN: Yes, she is.
KING: Have you come to know her, by the way?
PREJEAN: Well, actually in my book “Still Standing,” I actually had a conversation with her. And I just — I really look up to her and admire her for her strength and her courage. And I just — I really admire her.
Prejean goes on to call Larry “inappropriate” (what did he do? take off his suspenders in a come-hither way?) and almost walks off the show because he was about to take viewer calls which is, you know, part of his show. She even takes off her mike. Afraid of a few phone calls. Fearless, Carrie. Fearless.

The only problem with the “liberal” media and Palin and Prejean is that the media give them any attention at all. I suppose, in the end, that’s not really a bad thing since it exposes them for the know-nothings they are, but it’s tiresome and gives women in general a bad name. (Coulter is a bit of a different story. She’s smart enough to know that she’s spouting bullshit. I can respect that.)
I’m particularly annoyed by Prejean’s blather about a double standard. Carrie, there’s no double standard as to liberal and conservative women. There’s just a standard. To be taken seriously, you must be intelligent, well-read, and well-informed. You must be able to answer question like “What publications do you read?” and be able to cite some top tier publications and a book or 400 about policy in our time in your field. While I’m ranting, I’ll point out that every one of the questions Katy Couric asked Ms. Alaska was was a softball and could competently be answered by most high school seniors. Her crying foul? FAIL.
/End rant. For now.

Poor girl. All these delays on her yellow journalistic road to the pages of Playboy , or Christian Divide, or wherever she’s gonna end up doing her Big Sale/Show.

Thanks for the link Dr. J. It’s a good read, and DMw/P does have Molly’s flair for cutting to the quick.
Molly wrote about Paglia, “She writes aphorisms and then throws them out, one after the other, so rapid-fire the reader is exhausted,” which is how I felt as well when I read her.
And it’s how I feel when trying to make sense of the logic employed by Palin, Bachmann, and Prejean. Exhausting contradictions stated with absolute certainty and no awareness of the absurdity and hypocrisy.
R.I.P. Feminism.

You have to remember that these types commodify this pseudo-”victim” shit. They don’t give women a bad name, really. Too many of us know better than to identify with this nonsense to begin with; their entire show is just that-it’s all artifice
sorry, but I have a hard time believing that they have made any sincere inroads into re-defining “feminism” or substance. It’s such a parody now; not even funny anymore.

Women cannot have it both ways.
They use sex as a weapon, get naked to make money and then gripe when men treat them as an object.
I respect women, but I can tell you, a lot of men do not. I don’t go to strip clubs etc, but i can tell you a lot of men do.
Fools like this Carrie Peabrain set all women back, because other women defend her instead of calling her out for what she is, just a whore.

Why do so many conservatives do immoral things (according to the conservative code)? Seems to be a repetitive theme lately. They should not expect to hold others to the standards that they themselves cannot seem to meet.

I understand that logic, but speaking for myself, I don’t quite buy it
simply because all you have to do is look for yourself. IF other women choose to identify with that kinda crap, then they are welcome to bog themselves down in the ridicule that comes from this kind of “struggle”
these types couldn’t come close to speaking for me or anyone I know who earns credibility
why bother to “identify” with stupidity if you are claiming you fight against it? Why bother to defend something you can’t and don’t identify with? This isn’t a sorority-we are grown ups
this is a faux battle; the real work is done all the time and it isn’t done by fake modeling, it isn’t done for the benefit of tv, with mixed messages sold by vapidity
by “crusaders” who have to pay money to become what someone else tells them they need to be
the lives we live aren’t for show, and we have no need for this kind of attention. we are too busy. we have work to do,
kids and husbands to raise ;D

Husbands to raise? Raise my dirty socks off the floor perhaps.
Prejean, for better or worse, represents a seemingly rather large population of females who fall into the expensive beauty trap while trying to achieve some artificial idea of tit size, absurd thinness as defined by fashion clothing hangar chicks, or some other ideal of perceived perfection. Okay, if you’re 40 after a couple of kids and you want to correct gravity and you’ve got money to burn well do what you will. Breast cancer patient? By all means have reconstructive surgery. When you’re 20 and already attractive then why upsize? I find it ridiculous. But then I’m an old semi-hippie/Mr natural…I don’t even like make-up on women. Breast cafe’s? No thanks, waste of money.

PM, you put me in position to defend Prejean! She’s just a confused kid trading on her looks for attention. Her naivete on gay rights can be excused by her religious indoctrination and complete lack of experience beyond beauty pageants. Intelligent? No. A whore? No fucking way. That offensive term should be returned to your holster. It is too easily abused against women with different perspectives. A few silly women set all women back no more than ballon boy’s dad set all men back. Sit back and enjoy the show she provides us.

Exactly, Hillbilly. She’s not “setting” the rest of “us” back. She’s parroting, there’s a chance she’ll grow out of it, and even if she doesn’t, I don’t have time to worry about the fact that, to my way of thinking, clearly, someone didn’t do all that good a job by her.
I can’t “identify” with Sara Palin on any level. What a concept: to raise my kids to be tools for my own aggrandizement? Hello? To be so vested in artificiality and “image” that I devote my money and energy into funding an identity based almost entirely on an empty sell?
I have girlies too, and impressionable younger sisters. And they are learning that content of character is more important. And it’s an uphill battle that’s worth the effort. They aren’t perfect, but to date, I don’t think my younger sisters have posed for their boyfriends in some pathetic bid for recognition–of any kind…neither buys into that kind of lure.
Buying fake boobs doesn’t make you a whore, but if you buy into too much of what society is gonna shove down your throat, you are indeed more likely to pose for strangers in pageants rather than learning how to handle yourself around boys who want you to pose nude for them. I had a mother who wanted me to be pretty and proper, but she raised me with a firm grasp of right and wrong, and she taught me how to handle myself around boys. And I had a father who raised me to think. Neither taught me that I was “all about” my appearance and shallow convictions, and both raised me to understand that hypocrisy is wrong.
Honestly, assuming that there are teeming masses who can or would “identify” with someone who still clearly needs a good parent or some grounded figure to teach her right from wrong?
I can go the route of recommending compassion for this young woman, she is quite young and learning is a lifelong process. But I do have to insist that this broad stroke of “concern” for those who insist on following the examples of people like Carrie and Sarah be limited. If not by common sense, then by some reassurance that last year’s election should be some indication that those empty models of pseudo-feminism weren’t accepted by the whole of womankind in this country.

My use of whore is not ’sexual’, it is the ’selling’. It has nothing to do with fake body parts, it has to do with putting a price on her respect, and indeed, I think in that regard ,she is a big time sell out.
Of course, you can counter that she is to dumb to even know, and I might just have to declare you the winner of these few thoughts we are passing around.
Meanwhile, have a good week: i’m sure the bouncing babes from bonzo buddy land will continue to entertain, and on your advice, I’ll be sitting here in amazement. and amusement.

apologies, and you’re right–whores come in various colors, sizes and at least two genders I know of
no, she’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer, she will have plenty of opportunities to counter that once and if she ever grows up, assuming she’s ever lucky enough to rid herself of the garbage that keeps her doing this-I’m sure they are adequately compensated
this is dicey, but in order to be “whole” (thus, have an understanding of your true value), you have to know what that means; everyone has their own ideas there….
just seems to me that bunches of women have done better than you might think in understanding some of the basics, not that there isn’t a whole heckuva lot more to do out there, sure
but we see it all the time, and the likes of Sarah/Carrie burn out sooner or later. Fake is fake, whether it’s presented as a package or not.
this one isn’t a “win” for me btw; we have daugthers, and they need folks like us to make sure they know the difference between what’s real and what isn’t. Call it a group effort ;)
