Tip Me Over and Pour Me Out

I woke up this morning and looked at the calendar as I do every morning to see if it’s a holiday so I can skip work, and I discovered that TOMORROW IS TAX DAY?! Looks like I’ll be filing for an extension. Or will I? Now is the perfect time for me to throw down my chai tea latte in protest and say, I’m not going to take it anymore! (And then I will tell the barista that I spilled it by mistake and I need another one.) You see, tomorrow is the Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party.

What is this, you ask? You might as well ask yourself if you’re a patriot. The Revolution against crazy out-of-control spending and the stimulus package is here, spurred on by the infamous and out-of-control Rick Santelli Rant, which inspired the average American to watch CNBC for the first time.

Here in Austin, the rally will take place at 4PM on the south steps of the Capitol. The event will feature Congressman Mike McCaul and Sen. Dan Patrick, and will culminate in a Boston tea party reenactment at Lady Bird Lake. So if you happen to be in a kayak at that time, do not be alarmed at the scent of lemon and just a hint of honey.

If you’re unable to make the rally because you are actually “working” instead of “complaining about perceived injustices,” you can show your solidarity by honking your horns at noon. Collective horn-honking is one of the most effective ways to protest, second only to dressing up in colonial clothing and donning powdered wigs.

It appears that these ‘tea parties’ are being underwritten by gop whiners.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am highly opposed to the wolves watching the henhouse that Obama placed, but the whole ‘going to a socialist natin’ crap is being spouted by millions (thousands, hundreds??) of led astray radio repeaters, who have moms and dads on medicare, medicaid, and would be the first in line if these ’socialist’ programs were to end.

There is a need for fiscal responsibility, and a need for social works: the health care system is controlled by the insurance companies, and the pool of uninsured is more costly the way it is now, than it would be with real insurance availability.

So, while i ‘get’ the tea partyidea, the rhetoric is just bullshit.

Too bad. We do need a real ’storm the Bastille’ moment, but these pranks are not doing it.

    To much backstory.

I’m sorry. I just wanted to know if our Republican leaders planned to use teabags or tea balls to sully the waters of Lady Bird’s lake. Tea balls would be better for the environment. Organic would be nice.

So a bunch of guys in fancy old clothes and wigs are going to gather in the streets to talk about tea bagging? I guess Pride came early this year!

Thank god it’ll be over tomorrow. I’ve been receiving tea bags in the mail at work for *months* now (I work for a U.S. Senator in one of his district offices in FL if you’re wondering why on earth I’m being sent tea bags at work. In the mail). They’re usually crappy off-brands that won’t even make a decent cup of tea (Yes, I did consider using them. Why waste a perfectly good tea bag? Don’t look at me like that…)

Come on people, send me some Twinings!

I don’t think Lipton is made in China, treehugger.

    How do you know, A-person?
“Like most branded teas, Lipton teas are a blend selected from many different plantations around the world, from well-known producing countries like India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and China [China!]. Lipton Yellow Label is blended from as many as 20 different teas[5] in specialized tasting rooms in seven regional hubs scattered all over the world.”

And where does the generic cheap ass tea come from? If you’re going to send tea in the mail to make a point do you send a name brand like Lipton? Only if its in the some box buried in the back of the pantry with the kitty litter and those random 3 year old cans of soup and only slightly distended cans of green beans you’re saving for the next food drive.

    /Tea for the tillerman!

I don’t go in our pantry because I’m afraid a can will fall and break a foot.

Probably one of those bad idea soups that no one will try. I would be pissed, as well as wounded ,yet again, in yet another way.

That’s a whole lot gayer than the annual Pride parade in Austin. Did the Babtist Women perform for Perry? Lucky for him and his crowd that they did their tea-bagging in Austin; in East Texas that’d get you ten years.

Drove by the austin rally yesterday. People seemed polite and respectful.

I honked in support, because I don’t think we’re getting our tax dollar’s worth (in any administration that I can recal).

We might have gotten out moneys worth during the Eisenhower administration. But, then, Ike that crypto-socialist, anarcho-syndicalist supported public housing, the federal highway system, and federal support for medical care. What’s even worse, he didn’t get us into an expensive war.
If I remember correctly, there was a good bit of public dissent over the federal bail-out of the S &Ls that failed, after Garn-St.Germain pulled the teeth from the watch dogs. Then, there was similar work by Phil Gramm (the Senator from Enron) and others thereafter, with even more catastrophic results that we are hoping to cope with.
