Good Luck With That One
Jury selection begins today in the first trial of polygamists from the FLDS compound in Eldorado. How on earth are they going to find 12 jurors in Schleicher County who haven’t heard of the Yearning for Zion case?
Katy Vine’s excellent story about the sect in our October issue laid bare some of what went on at the ranch. If you haven’t read it yet, you ought to. A lot of the feedback to this piece has brought up the issue of religious freedom. Fair enough, but should religious freedom cover criminal activity?

Doesn’t it depend on what is/isn’t actually covered by the law? Hasn’t the interesting thing about this case been finding out what is allowed to go on that’s perfectly legal?
BTW…KV’s piece is a good one.

I’d vote to convict. That out of the way, it’s astonishing that there was no change of venue. Will there be members from the Eldorado compound seated on the jury?
As to what is/isn’t actually covered by law ~ An adult having sex with a child is covered. State trumps “religion” in this case. As well it should.
