What a sad find this morning to see you have a hamburger on your cover, after the passing of Farrah Fawcett, A TRUE GOLDEN TEXAS GIRL whom you covered twice ,you made an enourmous amount of money on, and she passed away with cancer.
I fine this a sad day, a joke and no respect. My affiliation with you magazine is void- How disrespectful.

I was sitting here thinking how everyone is so focused on Michael Jackson’s death, but nobody seems to be remembering Farrah Fawcett.

In 2005, I worked for a banking firm in downtown La Jolla. Every day I would usually wear black pants, a white dress shirt and a tie to work. I was working long hours, sometimes late into the evening. One evening I went to Georges with some of my co-workers. After we were seated, one noticed that Farrah was sitting a few tables down from us. One of the guys dared me to go over and tell her how beautiful she looked.

She was sitting next to a gentleman who appeared to be a bodyguard. A few minutes later, the “bodyguard” got up and left the table. Now was my chance so without thinking I got up and walked over to her table. I introduced myself and noticed that she had a camera in her hand. We chatted for a moment, and I asked if I could take a picture for her. She thanked me and said I was sweet, but she didn’t want a picture.

I was glancing at the table where my co-workers were. They couldn’t believe I was actually talking to Farrah. After she thanked me I walked away thinking how nice she was to me. Just then she called out to me and said … oh could you please bring me some more butter.

I just smiled and went back to my table. My co-workers were just dying to know what I told her, and they couldn’t believe I had that much nerve. They kept asking me; what did you tell her? What did she say when she called you back to the table? I told them I commented on how good she looked, and that we just made some small talk.
The next day at the office, everyone was saying how bold l was. It wasn’t until later that afternoon when I told them how she just asked me to bring her more butter. Everyone in the office was just cracking up! Still, Farrah Fawcett only thought I was only a bus boy, and yet she was so kind. I will never forget Farrah’s warm smile and I only hope that I can emulate her nature in how I treat others.

    Dear Editor,
I feared this. It is a terrible ,sad day when people cash in on a famed face, but we are in trouble when we disrespect an Icon.
Farrah Fawcett will always remain in our lives as she passed away with a disease we are finding more, and more common each new day. Your magazine was always appreciated when it played respectful, and fair, yet this is off the line. This is no respect. I am appaled that one of Texas Ledgends passed away with Cancer and you do a cover like this. No taste, worse no respect !

There is nothing wrong with this cover. It is perfect for the end of summer. I look forward to receiving this issue. To all the commenters, yes Farrah Fawcett would be a great candidate for the cover of August’s TM. I am a huge fan of Fawcett, but look at it from a production standpoint. These issues are planned months in advance. With her death only 2 weeks ago, that would be logistically impossible to scratch an entire issue and produce a Farrah Fawcett tribute. With the change of the cover, comes change of content and even advertisers. Be patient, I know TM will honor her approporately. Give TM the time to do it right. There is no reason to cancel subscriptions just because you are mad TM couldn’t produce a tribute with such a tight production turn around.

Texas Monthly. May I ask if you have considered the fact that hamburger is an insult to many, as we as a nation, let alone a state read daily how we are obese. I am appaled as well over the lack of respect for our Farah, we are focused on cancer, just like Farah was. We need to pay respect to those in the State of Texas when we lose one of our own symbols. The Uncle Ted Article was beyond sad, it was a now slap in the face of Texas. I say this because you have in no way been fair, just or respectful to a legend. Why not ? Do know I am requesting my subscription be dropped via postal mail, and online. We seem to need an apologie, and above all a retrospect as Texas was Farrah’s home state.

    Jeff, I see your point.
I disagree, as Farrah’s story was shown in May.
It was enough time , more than enough time to prepare an ER issue .
Farrah’s history is as big as Texas. She left a huge mark on many. Farrah represented UT in a very posotive way.
I again see your point ,yet a magazine that premired in 1973 has had enough time to stand guard and be prepared to pay tribute where tribute is due. I agree with a post above, the 4th of July is past, and Farrah is gone. This is just not fair. By September my guess is THE REST OF AMERICA WILL BE BORROWING TEXAS INK TO COVER THE DEATH OF Michael Jackson, when Ms,Fawcett has taken a back seat, and passed away from a disease.
    not an overdose.

That last magazine made no sense and left me with wonder as to who is doing these magazine cover story’s. I would like to add tha Ms, Schwartz was terribly sad in how she did write her article on Me. Farrah. It looked like a very dark article on such a lovley young lady whom we adored and have now lost to cancer. How can a burger replace this.

I as well remember Farrah being in Lubbock in 1998 and how truly pretty she was. She seemed calm, relaxed, and as if her future was bright.
I admired her skin, even if it had been weathered by the element of time and possibly sun, she held a complection like no one, and all I think she wore was a little eye liner, and a beautiful pink lipstick. I inquired about her sunglasses and she told me they were from a local boutique at about 12.oo, so very basic, honest, and yet and Angel.

Leslie it appears the article has already appeared. It is located now online, one page basicly calling Farrah a trainwreck.
Possibly due to Ms,Fawcett’s choice to receive alternative treatments in Germany it was to much for Texas Monthly to grasp or tackle.
From what I see the article has called Farrah nothing but a train werck.
It was done by non other than a film critic.I do not see this as a tribute.
What a shame ! A Disgrace, and when it was an open door to shed the 30 year career of a woman who just did possibly 2 outstanding films, and left us with an inside to her battle with Cancer.
Her cancer film titled FARRAH’S STORY, was not intended to be a publication, or even a 2 hour NBC
SPECIAL- It was to allow her to go back and study the grey areas of cancer and what she was being told ! The so called one page article is not flattering ,and an insult in the face of anyone who adored Farrah Fawcett’s way of life.Farrah was an artist, a respected sculpter, and truly loved the art’s. Texas should remember that Austin if about ART.
This article is so quickly rushed and done so by a film critic that It left out those in Austin who knew far more, and were not allowed to pay tribute in a magazine that was once cashing in on Farrah.

    tree hugger-
Yes it is a monthly publication. Ms Fawcett was diagnosed with cancer in 2006- which led to an NBC
MOVIE -FARRAH’S STORY, originaly titled A WING AND A PRAYER.
NBC aired this on the 17th of May-09, with huge praise.
Farrah had a motto, it was FIGHT THE FIGHT-and fighting cancer was what she succomed to in June.
Again the Cheesburger was possibly paid alot of atention to, it is Texas after all. But wow as looking at the news stand I am not only ashamed for Texas lack of tribute, but a magazine that placed a title FARRAH VS THE CHEESBURGER- in Evans blog, on the front cover of the online edition, To think how this would have faired with the regular subscribers, shows Evan lacks respect, as well as care for part of this states lore, legend, and well hair- ! Farrah vS Cancer would have been much more respectful, and to have a Texan write an article, not a film critic in the click here to read page online would have looked not so rushed- I trust TM will at some point pay tribute to a brave Texas woman who died from a disease that is very close to home. For those who made snide remarks, did anyone of you know Ms, Fawcett passed away with Cancer ? So the CHEESBURGER COMMENT SHOULD BE RETRACTED IN SUBSCRIPTION, AS WELL AS ONLINE READER PRIVILAGES.

In the days of Cancer, the light of Cancer was possibly a much better choice and as Ms Fawcett is now left a legacy THE FARRAH FAWCETT CANCER FOUNDATION, I feel her face would have graced this cover in not only tribute, but dignity. Maybe there should be a cover story on MD Anderson and all of those Texans fighting for their lives, whether they were natural beauties or not. They may not have starred on a television show, but many have built this great state of ours into what it is. TM Im sure will have a respectable tribute, but I think most of you need to calm down.
