Ok, really. I love the Percy Jackson Series! Guess what i’m 14 and a girl. I’m so tired of people refering to these books as for pre-teen boys. Please stop! All my friends (Who also happen to be girls) love it as well. It’s great for all genders and ages! And by the way Percy is 16, a teenager. I’m sorry but there is a big mental differernce between 11/12 and 16. BIG DIFFERERENCE!!!!

I hate to say I agree with the snide tone she adopts, but I *do* agree with the underlying message Kay is trying to get at. A lot of students currently reading these books were in their early/mid-teens when they came out, but now these same kids (myself included!) who read Riordan’s books when “The Lightning Theif” made its initial debut are, several years later, in high school.

Also? Plenty of girls like it, too. ;)

    I totally I agree :)
I’m a 15 year old girl and these are the best books I have ever read! Absolutely amazing!!
If you haven’t read them, you should definitely start! So excited for the Last Olympian!

I <3<3<3<3 the Percy Jackson series!!!!!! And actually, more girls than boys at my school have read the series, though it’s pretty close. I emailed Rick Riordan and he said that they’re still designing the cover for the last olympian.

Yeah I’m tired of people reffering to the PJ&O books as for ages 10-12, it’s so annyoing!
And I think Rick Riordan serioulsy needs to give in interview where he only talks about the PJ&O series, because he has never given a full interview about just that series!

  8. Sam says:

I totally agree with you, about the book ages, and the interview!
I think It was SO sad the way Rick Riordan said the last book will completly wrap up Percy’s story! (We know he is not going to die, but it still sound sad- almost like Percy’s story will be abandoned after the last book)

I love the Percy Jackson books so so much! I can’t wait for the Last Olympian, or the demigod files! I have to admit I’m not too excited about “a new generation of demigods”, though. I just don’t think they could or should be anywhere as awesome as Annabeth, Percy, Thalia, Grover, Luke, etc.

    Rick Riordan rocks!!!

I’m a 14 year old girl and last year practicly every kid in my school (well at least half of them) read that book and loved it. When I saw that it was rated for 10 – 12 year old boys i was a little surprised cause a lot of the girls loved it too (including my 26 year old english teacher). I have read all the twilight books too, but i can honestly say i like these more because i can relate to them more.

I am a 14 year old girl, and I have noticed that, at least in my school, an even amount of boys and girls read the books.
It annoys those of us who have read it that it is classified for those ages 8-12. It should be 8 and up.

I don’t like how books get classified as girl books and guy books and kid books and teen books. Its pretty inaccurate. Think Harry Potter. I LOVE PJATO, and I’m a girl in high school. Most of my (same age or older and girls) friends love the series even though it’s classified as a boys kids books.

Sometimes those labels are accurate, but really good books transcend them.

wow thanks for the support guy,…sorry girls. i was just tired of everyone saying stuff thats not true, and i started reading it when i was 12, my 6th grade teacher, Ms.Smith, read the first book to us, and i got hooked. i liked reading before but never loved it. now i loved it, without PJO, i never would have read some books like harry potter and maximum ride. percy got me into fantisy. thanks for the support, in means a lot.

Another 14 year old girl here. Percy Jackson is the best! The writing is incredible, and it’s really funny. I L-O-V-E reading them.

    Percy Jackson–Not just for guys.
Congrats to Kay for becoming DEMIGOD OF THE WEEK! (week, week, week…)

Hey. I’m 14, and I SO agree. I got hooked on the PJO series on a bus–a friend (who HAPPENS to be female) was reading Titan’s Curse and made me read Lightning Thief. It’s my favorite series–I’ve actually lent my copy of The Lightning Thief to a guy because no one at my school seems to have even read it. (I was Annabeth for Halloween, and nobody knew who I was.) I am *extremely* excited because I’ll be getting books 3 and 4 soon. Can’t wait for #5!

And, (forgot to mention this) I’m in HIGH SCHOOL. I’m a 14-year-old girl, and I’m obsessed–I mean *passionate* about PJO. I agree with Kay–there’s a HUGE difference between an 11-and-12-year-old and a 16-year-old. My cousins are 10, and even though all three of us have some of the same interests, I’m MUCH more mature than the boys. (Yes, my cousins are guys.)

And, (getting away from my rant) congrats Kay on getting Demigod of the Week! ^_^ I’m happy for you!

Haha, me and my friend are TOTALLY obssesed in PJO! We can’t wait for the movie, 5th book, and Demigod Files to come out! We’re going to read (watch) them all!

I am OBSESSED with PJO. I just cannot get enough of them!! They are so great! I found this on Rick Riordan’s blog and had to come immediately and say my piece.
Okay, I started when I was 11, which is a normal age for the readers, but obviously the series wasn’t finished when I was reading them so now I have to wait for the last one and I’m 13… but that doesn’t mean I’m like below reading level or anything I love all sorts of books with all different age ranges I just love this particular book and want to continue the story! Oh, and yes I’m a girl. I think the book is made for both genders… it might have a boy as the main character but that doesn’t mean a girl can’t relate to him. Percy rocks!

I definetly wish they wouldn’t put books in catagorizes. Girls and guys both can read about each other. Oh and am 13 and a girl too. I think that these books can be for kids way older than 11 and 12. These books rock!!!!!

I love these books!! I’m obsessed! I started reading them in 6th grade and i loved them. I’m in 8th grade now and I love these books more and more each time I open them. I actually know more girls that read these books than guys. And there all 12, 13, or 14 and older. Just becuase your girl and you’re a teenager doesn’t mean you can’t like these books! Long Live Olympus!

I love these books so much! They’re my absolute favorite books, and I drive everyone I know crazy constantly ranting about them!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians are the best books ever, though I suppose that’s just my opinion. No, it MUSTbe a fact …
(Harry Potter is a close second.)

Rick Riordan’s awesome and I thank him so much for writing those books!

I cannot wait for the movies to come out, and the Demigod Files, and above all: The Last Olympian!!!

I really love The Percy Jackson and the Olympian Series.I even got my mom reading the first book! She really likes it. I’m a girl age 11 ( couple of months until monsters hunt me out at age 12;))and always talk about Percy,Annabeth,Grover and the whole gang. My new friend also read the series too, but her brother won’t because he thinks it’s for girls.I never thought I would like this series because all of the series I wasn’t asigned to read were about girls.Annabeth as one of the main characters was really easy to realate to because I’m so much like her. This Halloween I was Artemis goddess of the Hunt.People must’ve thought that was weird, me being obsesed with series that basicly no one in my grade knew about. Thanks Rick, for making the best series EVER!! (P.S.- Luke is such an idiot. Don’t get me started on that.)
