This is a release from the Haggerty campaign:

EL PASO – Today, Pat Haggerty will begin airing a political commercial titled “Mom” which features Pat and his mother Eleanor Haggerty. The ad strikes a positive, and humorous tone in stark contrast to Dee Margo’s negative ads that are mostly recycled ideas from his unsuccessful Senate race.

Eleanor Haggerty, the star of the spot, is the matriarch of the Haggerty family that includes her 9 living children, and 67 grandchildren and great grandchildren combined. Three of Eleanor’s sons hold elected office in El Paso. Dan Haggerty is a County Commissioner, Brian Haggerty serves on the community college board, and Pat Haggerty has served El Paso in the Texas Legislature and City Council for nearly 30 years. During her lifetime, Eleanor has worked as a nurse and ran the first licensed day care in El Paso. Eleanor has never taken a prominent role in her son’s campaigns, but felt compelled when Dee Margo began distorting Pat Haggerty’s record.

“I am proud of all my children, and felt compelled to get involved when Mr. Margo began smearing Pat, and being untruthful about his record,” said Eleanor. “It was time for someone to start running a television commercial that was truthful, that’s why I stepped in.”
