I’ll never understand South Texas politics.

This release from the Eddie Saenz campaign — he’s challenging Craddick D Aaron Pena in the Democratic primary — appeared in the Quorum Report:

La Joya Mayor Billy Leo, a South Texas icon, longtime community leader, and Democratic activist, endorsed Eddie this week, and so did Gumaro ‘Maro’ Flores, the Influential Sullivan City Mayor (and father of state representative Kino Flores).”The incumbent supports a Republican leader at the State Capitol who has been in office for nearly 40 years and still hasn’t managed to get the job done,” Mayor Leo said. “It’s time for a fresh voice and a new direction in Austin. That’s why community leaders are uniting behind Eddie Saenz so that the rest of our South Texas delegation can have a full partner in fighting for our families and our needs.”

I understand why Billy Leo, a longtime Democratic party political hack and defrocked boss, is supporting Saenz. But Kino Flores’ father? Kino is a Craddick D. Pena is a Craddick D. Aren’t they on the same side? Does Kino want to see Pena get beat so Kino will be Mr. Big in Hidalgo County? Can somebody explain this to me?
