Attorney general candidate Dan Branch has issued a statement vowing to attack voter fraud. And once again, I am compelled to point out that voter fraud is a solution in search of a problem. Except for rare incidents, such as those involving ACORN a few years back, voter fraud is next to nonexistent. Dan Branch knows this, and so does anybody else that has followed the issue.
You have to be really stupid to show up at the polls with a fake I.D. Impersonating another voter is not a successful strategy for fixing elections. It seems to me that this initiative has less to do with policy than it does with the chance to tout this endorsement to primary voters: “Branch’s Voter Fraud Task Force received high praise from Catherine Engelbrecht, the president of the King Street Patriots and the founder of True the Vote.”
