Nothing feeds hysteria more than a flap over Second Amendment rights. In this case, the facilitator is attorney general candidate Dan Branch, who posted this alert to “Dear Fellow Texan”

Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry just indicated his support for a UN Arms Trade Treaty. The bottom line: among other things, this is John Kerry and the Obama Administration attempting to sign away our Second Amendment rights to unelected UN bureaucrats. It’s urgent that you sign our petition now to tell the US Senate NOT to ratify this treaty, which will trample on our rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution.

Let’s be sensible here. The chance that the United States Senate would ratify a UN Arms Trade Treaty that impaired Second Amendment rights is less than ZERO. I’ll give Branch credit for stirring up a fuss, but there is no way that the Senate is going to bargain away the Second Amendment, and certainly not to the United Nations. Can’t we have a discussion about something that is pertinent to the future of Texas, like school finance, or health care, instead of some trumped-up issue that has no basis in reality other than anti-Obama hysteria?
