Located on a 243-acre residential campus in Hawkins, Jarvis Christian College promotes a liberal arts education that nurtures intellectual and spiritual development. Students choose from 15 degree plans in the arts and sciences, business, and education. More than 30 clubs, teams, and organizations provide extracurricular diversion. Student athletes compete in basketball, volleyball, baseball, and three other NAIA-level sports.
Hawkins is supportive of Jarvis students, who often volunteer in the community and take part in two annual Hawkins events: Pancake Day and the Oil Festival (a nod to the town’s roots as an oil hub in the 1940s). The school encourages this reciprocal relationship through the Educational Talent Search, a program sponsored by Jarvis’s Division of Education that seeks to identify and nurture potential university students between the ages of 11 and 27, many of whom will be first-generation college applicants.
Conscious of the latest trends in education, the school is working to enhance its programs in the environmental sciences. This expansion is part of the college’s larger campaign to improve its resources and increase the size of the student body from its current enrollment of nearly 700 to 1,000 within the next two years. A recent financial gift, which will be used to build a new dormitory, will help to make campus improvements a reality.
