This selective liberal arts institution promotes a pray-and-play philosophy among its more than 2,000 students. Degree programs in 43 fields offer a wide range of faithguided academics. The education and professional studies departments are especially popular. A four-year institution since 1971, LCU requires chapel attendance and encourages service-oriented extracurricular interests. Performing groups like Best Friends and the Praise Choir put out their own CDs and travel on international mission trips. Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) allows students to share tools for success and financial literacy information with residents in surrounding neighborhoods. Undergraduates also compete on varsity sports and intramural teams.
Freshmen and sophomore students live on campus in two newly refurbished residence halls. The campus regularly hosts concerts by popular Christian rock bands like Day of Fire and Nevertheless. LCU is one of four institutions of higher learning in Lubbock, an agriculture and manufacturing hub that is also home to the Buddy Holly Center. Students take advantage of the center’s annual tribute to its native son as well as Lubbock’s arts festival, symphony, and ballet.
