Points of Distinction

Enrollment has reached an all-time high at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, with more than 1,800 students embracing the school’s mission to infuse education with a Christian worldview. Weekday chapel attendance adds perspective to classroom studies. The university clearly practices what it preaches: The Red River Athletic Conference awarded SAGU players and coaches the 2006–07 Sportsmanship Award for their impeccable demeanor and conduct on and off the field.

Two colleges—Bible and Chapel Ministries and Arts and Professions— offer more than 60 academic programs. In the last three years, Arts and Professions has added seven undergraduate programs, including criminal justice, social work, and sports management. The music studies department has a reputation for producing award-winning recording artists and music professionals.

Located on a 70-acre campus in Waxahachie, SAGU has six residence halls; two of them, Bridges and Teeter, were built within the last two years. Participation in student organizations, groups, and clubs is encouraged. Student-led ministries is a popular option, and many student athletes travel abroad on missionary trips. Favorite campus spots include the Grille Works (burgers and fries) and Sycamore Place (ice cream and smoothies). In Waxahachie, students can take advantage of the music series at the restored Texas Theater and the mini Grand Prix in May, which always includes a SAGU-sponsored team.
