Points of Distinction

Texas A&M University–Kingsville focuses on liberal arts and career education programs while cultivating generations of alumni, many within the same family. The school is also known for its wildlife sciences and biology programs, and the Rio Star grapefruit was developed at the university’s Citrus Center in Weslaco. Texas A&M– Kingsville attracts approximately 5,000 undergraduates, many of who enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences. The university offers 56 bachelor’s degrees and is in the process of revising and updating its curriculum in every college. A new course in the chemical and physical composition of fibers, for instance, will help fashion and merchandising students stay on top of trends in the textile industry.

Students must live on campus until they turn 21 years old or earn 60 credit hours, and the university works hard to personalize the experience. The five campus residence halls are grouped according to themed communities; if you’re an avid fan of popular culture, for example, you’ll want to live in either Bishop or Lynch. Participation in more than 100 student organizations and on recreational sports teams enhances college life at A&M–Kingsville.

The school also has a 545-acre farm not far from the main campus in Kingsville, which is home to the storied King Ranch. A&M–Kingsville’s ranch management institute is named for the King family, and it sponsors a popular annual symposium that brings together top names in the ranching field. Kingsville is also a well-known birding destination and is within 40 miles of Corpus Christi’s beaches.
