More than 1,800 undergraduates attend this small Catholic university located in the heart of Houston’s historic Museum District. Students choose from 35 undergraduate and pre-professional programs, and the Cameron School of Business attracts the most majors. The university’s proximity to downtown Houston enhances opportunities for numerous internship and networking experiences. Approximately one third of the student body lives on campus in residence halls or in university-owned apartments, homes, and town houses. Guinan Hall is the newest residence facility, and Augusta Hall offers a combined living-learning community to those who desire a holistic learning experience.
UST has 70 student organizations, including academic and special-interest clubs and service opportunities. A women’s volleyball team was formed in 2006, and a men’s soccer team kicked off its first season in 2007. Both teams belong to the NAIA. Fans of professional basketball enjoy UST Night at the Rockets, which provides reduced-price tickets to Houston Rockets home games.
University of St. Thomas students can take advantage of nearby permanent and temporary exhibitions at the Menil Collection and the Museum of Fine Arts, as well as other museums. The university recently acquired property in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood for future expansion. One of the buildings currently houses the Black Labrador Pub, a favorite student hangout, but not to worry: we hear the pub will be around for at least another three years.
