Nestled in the Piney Woods of East Texas, this small, selective university supports a holistic education for its nearly 1,350 students. ETBU offers 24 majors in seven schools, and its religious studies program attracts many students. The school’s travel study program promotes learning abroad in 10 countries. Students can focus on language and contemporary issues while attending classes in Costa Rica, or they can study music and art in Australia. Eight other programs are offered in different cities across the nation. Chapel attendance is required, as is on-campus living in single-gender dorms for underclassmen.
Plenty of activities exist on campus and off. Soccer continues to be a popular sport at ETBU, and the university recently unveiled its new soccer field. Students also take advantage of the campus location in historic Marshall, a relatively small but vibrant city where local artists have studio space in a refurbished industrial building on the downtown square. Nearly all of the students bring cars to campus, and a lot of them take off on weekends. Lake O’ the Pines and Caddo Lake recreational areas are nearby, and Dallas is about 150 miles to the west.
