This Christian liberal arts school prides itself on fostering a close community where personal connection is valued. Howard Payne University’s faculty and staff invest in students’ success through teaching, learning, and service. Nearly 1,400 students attend HPU, where they choose from more than 60 majors, minors, and preprofessional programs. Education, business, and Christian studies attract many students, and HPU is the only university in the state to have bachelor’s and master’s degrees in youth ministry. The Academy of Freedom Honors Program challenges students with its multidisciplinary curriculum and unique travel opportunities. Co-curricular activities include Model UN, Moot Court, and Student Speaker Bureau, to name a few.

Located in the community of Brownwood, HPU is on a 90-acre tree-lined campus perched on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. Off-campus activities include nearby Lake Brownwood, a student favorite. HPU’s NCAA Division III sports teams have a loyal fan following, and its women’s basketball team won the 2008 National Championship. Intramural sporting competitions are also well attended. More than 50 student organizations round out the school’s extracurricular offerings.
