This Christian-based comprehensive institution tailors its educational offerings to promote student success in four areas: spiritual formation, intellectual growth, personal stewardship, and leadership development. Lubbock Christian University’s more than 1,800 students choose from among 29 bachelor’s degree and 14 master’s degree programs. The education and professional studies departments are especially attractive to students. Beyond the intimate classroom setting at LCU, students have access to new “weekend college” programming, which combines weekend classes with online courses for flexible scheduling while still receiving face-to-face interaction with professors. Established in 1957, LCU continues to foster its spirit of close-knit community through daily chapel attendance and service-oriented extracurricular interests. Musical performing groups travel and represent the university, and undergraduates compete on NAIA nationally ranked varsity sports teams.
Renovations are under way to transform the Rhodes-Perrin Field House, a WWII-era landmark on the LCU campus, into a multifaceted recreation center with student housing surrounding it, built from steel shipping containers. A cost-effective and ecologically unique project, this renovation is the largest of its kind in North America to be made from these materials. LCU is one of four institutions of higher learning in Lubbock, an agriculture and manufacturing hub that has a rich musical heritage and a vibrant art community.
