Established in 1922 as Wichita Falls Junior College, Midwestern State University has grown into a selective four-year liberal arts university with more than 6,000 students. Red brick buildings and gently sculpted archways give the campus a classic collegiate feel. Five residence halls and two apartment complexes house on-campus students, and a new residence complex is scheduled to open in fall 2009. MSU students choose from 43 undergraduate majors and 24 graduate programs. Those who specialize in mechanical engineering have access to the school’s robotics laboratory, and the radiological and nursing programs earn high marks from professionals in the field.
MSU’s eclectic list of more than 100 student organizations has something for everyone, from a society for vegetarians to radiology, jazz, and chess clubs. When they’re not hanging out on the steps of Pierce and Killingsworth dorms, students enjoy entertainment throughout the year, from nationally known speakers and comedians to hypnotists and musicians. In December the campus hosts more than 200,000 visitors, many from around the state, who come to see the spectacular Fantasy of Lights holiday display. The Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU attracts visitors year-round.
