Enrollment has reached an all-time high at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, with nearly 1,900 students embracing the school’s mission to infuse education with a Christian worldview. Weekday chapel attendance adds perspective to classroom studies. The university clearly practices what it preaches: the Red River Athletic Conference awarded SAGU players and coaches the 2006—2007 Sportsmanship Award for their impeccable demeanor and conduct on and off the field.
Two colleges—Bible and Church Ministries, and Arts and Professions—offer more than 60 academic programs. In the last four years, Arts and Professions has added 9 undergraduate programs, including criminal justice, social work, and sports management. The music studies department has a reputation for producing award-winning recording artists and music professionals.
Located on a 70-acre campus in Waxahachie, SAGU has five residence halls; two of them, Bridges and Teeter, were built within the last few years. Participation in student organizations, groups, and clubs is encouraged. Student-led ministries are a popular option, and many student athletes travel abroad on missionary trips. Favorite campus spots include the Lion’s Den (burgers, fries, coffee, and ice cream). In Waxahachie, students can take advantage of the historic downtown district’s restaurants and shops. Or they can travel a short distance to Dallas for an array of sporting and arts events.
