This small liberal arts college enjoys a big reputation. Austin College is one of 40 schools profiled in the influential book Colleges That Change Lives. About 1,300 students attend the college, which was founded in 1849 and is to the Presbyterian Church. Student choose from more than 30 areas of study, and Austin College is recognized nationally in the areas of pre- professional training, leadership studies, and international education. In fact, few schools the size of Austin College offer a greater emphasis on all things global. More than 70 percent of students travel abroad at least once during their academic careers, exploring some 50 countries on six continents. And the Jordan Family Language House offers a unique residential experience in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

The majority of undergraduates spend most of their college career living on campus in one of five residence halls (three are single-gender halls, two are coed), but Austin College also offers apartment-style suites for upper-class and graduate students.

The school’s 70-acre campus lies just north of Dallas in Sherman, often touted for its livability and laid-back attitude. Sherman is home to a number of top companies, as well as a lively arts community.
