Nationally ranked Texas Lutheran University recently finished the AT&T Science Wing, a 9,000-square-foot renovation with facilities for the biology, chemistry, and physics programs. Funded primarily by AT&T, this impressive addition will strengthen offerings in these areas of study. TLU offers 26 majors and 13 preprofessional programs in all, and its professional studies area continues to be among its most popular.
Approximately 1,400 undergraduates attend TLU, which comprises 184 tree-lined acres in historic Seguin. The university’s distinctive chapel anchors the campus and provides a spiritual touchstone for many of the students. More than half of TLU’s full-time undergraduates live in one of seven campus residence halls or in university-owned apartment complexes, which adds to the collegial atmosphere.
Extracurricular activities include participation in various professional organizations and musical and theater groups, such as the College Republicans, the Young Democrats, the Mexican American Student Association (MASA), the Black Student Union, the Texas Academy of Science, and the Ultimate Frisbee Club. TLU sponsors 14 men’s and women’s varsity sports, which compete at the NCAA Division III level and in the American Southwest Conference. Intramurals are a popular choice, as is the annual Day of the Dogs event (a community service project) and the Bulldog Revue (a musical competition).
The nearby Guadalupe River is a frequent student hangout, and San Antonio is just 35 miles away. Seguin’s ChiroJava Coffeehouse provides a unique combination of caffeine, chiropractic care, and wireless Internet.
