Texas Woman’s University is the nation’s largest university primarily for women. A public university, TWU has been enrolling men since 1972. Seven consecutive years of enrollment growth have produced a record 12,469 students. TWU offers a liberal arts—based curriculum that prepares students for success in an increasingly global world. The health sciences are popular, and the university produces more health care professionals than any other university in Texas. TWU’s nursing program attracts many students and receives high praise in the field. The university’s faculty and students also conduct research that has an impact on the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity, osteoporosis, stroke, and diabetes.
TWU’s multiple campuses in Denton, Dallas, and Houston are joined by an e-learning campus that offers innovative online degree programs in business, education, nursing, and general studies. Undergraduates who have yet to turn 21 years old live in campus residence halls. These high-rise structures mix with traditional buildings like Old Main and the Little Chapel-in-the-Woods, which is near the lush botanical gardens.
More than 100 organizations provide extracurricular opportunities, and the university fields five athletic teams that compete at the NCAA Division II level. TWU’s talented gymnastics team has won nine USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championship titles.
TWU’s proximity to Denton’s courthouse square often brings students downtown for shopping, music, and galleries. Denton’s annual Arts and Jazz Festival is a favorite too.
