Walk among the approximately 1,300 undergraduates at the University of Dallas, and you’ll be struck by their enthusiasm for the school’s core curriculum and its Rome program. “The Core” combines a challenging variety of courses in English, philosophy, and 10 other subjects to provide each student with critical-thinking tools and the foundation for becoming a truly educated person. The semester-long Rome program continues where the Core leaves off. Sophomores attend classes on UD’s 12-acre Constantin campus and take day and overnight trips to surrounding European cities. As many UD students will attest, the results are life-changing.

Back on the 225-acre Irving campus, students choose from more than 20 majors and over 40 clubs and organizations. All but seniors are required to live on campus in one of eight residence halls or apartment complexes. A new four-story residence facility is under construction and scheduled to open in 2010. During the day, students often congregate on the campus mall, which occasionally hosts live concerts.

Thursday nights are spent at the “Rat” (the campus Rathskeller), and other extracurricular activities include playing on or cheering for one of the school’s 13 NCAA Division III athletic teams. Students seeking more cosmopolitan restaurants and clubs frequently make the 15-minute drive into downtown Dallas.
