More than 36,000 students attend the University of Houston, which is known for its research facilities and its acclaimed faculty, such as Nobel Peace Prize recipient Jody Williams, a social work professor. Located in the historic Third Ward neighborhood and close to downtown, the university puts students in proximity to internship opportunities with Fortune 500 companies, law firms, and arts organizations.

Home to the only graduate program of its kind in space architecture, UH also has leading business and law programs. Its entrepreneurship program ranks as the nation’s best. The university hosts an impressive calendar of arts events through the Moores School of Music, the School of Theatre, and the Blaffer Gallery. UH’s 300-plus student organizations offer a multitude of cultures and perspectives, and Greek organizations are top draws. Fourteen men’s and women’s athletic teams compete in the NCAA and in Conference USA.

The 560-acre campus features tree-lined walkways, fountains, and sculpture gardens that provide a backdrop for recent additions such as the Science and Engineering Research and Classroom Complex and the award-winning Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. When students want to experience the flavor of the nation’s fourth-largest city, they often head to downtown Houston’s Theater District and Museum District.
