More than 3,200 undergraduates attend this mid-sized comprehensive Catholic university located in the heart of Houston’s historic Museum District. Undergraduate students can choose from 31 majors and
9 preprofessional programs. Pre-health attracts the most majors, followed by the Cameron School of Business. The university’s proximity to downtown and the Texas Medical Center enhances opportunities for internship and networking experiences. Students enjoy living on campus in residence halls, such as Guinan Hall, or university-owned apartments, homes, and town houses. Young Hall is the newest residence facility, and Augustine Hall offers a faith-based, living-learning community open to all majors and members of all faiths.
Academic and special-interest clubs and service opportunities highlight UST’s student organizations. Recreational sports programs promote a balance between academic and nonacademic life. Intercollegiate athletics include women’s volleyball and men’s soccer. Newly hired athletic director and men’s basketball coach Todd Smith will recruit a basketball team to add to the 2009 season.
University of St. Thomas students can take advantage of nearby permanent and temporary exhibitions at the Menil Collection and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as well as other museums. The university recently acquired additional property in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood for future expansion, which will extend the campus boundaries to include nearly 19 city blocks.
