A member of the University of Texas System, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin delivers more than just a degree. A recent Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board report shows UTPB is the top Texas public university for graduates who receive jobs in Texas or go on to Texas graduate or professional schools within a year of graduating. UTPB offers 32 undergraduate majors (including pre-engineering, one of the newest) and is known for its strong programs. The School of Business is ranked in the top third of U.S. business schools, and the visual arts program is only the sixth among Texas universities to earn accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The distinctive Shepperd Institute offers leadership seminars and training throughout the state.

The 564-acre campus continues to expand. The $54 million Science and Technology Complex, with 32 labs and classrooms, and the Student Multipurpose Center will both open in fall 2010. The new Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center will host its first season in 2012.

A member of the NCAA Division II, UTPB fields 11 men’s and women’s athletic teams. Neighboring Odessa is one of the university’s biggest fans, supporting UTPB students by offering internships and providing student-oriented community events.
