The University of Texas at San Antonio serves its 28,533 students via three campuses. Most of the school’s undergraduates take classes at the 1604 campus, which includes 725 acres on the north side of San Antonio near the intersection of Loop 1604 and I-10. Four campus residence complexes accommodate approximately 3,700 students. Many additional private apartments are adjacent to the main campus and provide housing opportunities to about 5,000 students. The downtown campus is conveniently located off I-35. The Institute of Texan Cultures, designated the state’s center for multicultural education, also is in the city’s center, at HemisFair Park.
UTSA has 64 bachelor’s degrees, and liberal arts and business are the most popular. The university is also known for its strong sciences, engineering, computer security, and architecture programs. UTSA is on the road to become a national research university. The graduate school offers 46 master’s degrees and 21 doctoral programs. Collaborations with the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, and related private and public institutions enhance UTSA’s research, teaching, and service missions.
To serve students from all 50 states and 90 countries, UTSA continues to expand and add amenities to meet the diverse educational and social needs of its student body. New construction on the 1604 campus includes an expansion of the university center to host student activities and more than 200 student organizations. An addition to the Recreation and Wellness Center has increased square footage and upgraded amenities. It now boasts a smoothie bar, an expanded pool with a lazy river, and the tallest climbing wall in the state.
UTSA is an NCAA Division I school with sixteen sports in men’s and women’s divisions. Teams compete in basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and track and field, among others. UTSA recently acquired 125 acres to expand and improve its recreational and athletic facilities.
Known as a gateway to the Texas Hill Country, San Antonio has much to offer students. Off campus they head to the River Walk, the Shops at La Cantera, SeaWorld, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
