Founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, the University of the Incarnate Word is the largest Catholic university in the Southwest and the fourth-largest private university in Texas. The UIW System is composed of campuses in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Goodyear, Arizona, China, and Mexico.
Students can choose from 70 undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs, including pharmacy and optometry. The university also features Extended Academic Programs, the Universe Online, and the Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCaP), an accelerated evening studies plan designed for working adults. Students often participate in community service, internships, and mentoring opportunities. UIW is a leader in international education with nearly 100 “sister schools” in more than 30 countries and regions with a diverse student body representing more than 50 countries.
UIW is a member of the NCAA Division II and a member of the Heartland Conference. With the addition of Cardinal football, UIW now boasts 19 teams representing 12 different sports, more than any other NCAA Division II school in the state of Texas. Campus life is inclusive and supportive. The variety of activities includes academic, social, professional, and Greek organizations. There is something for everyone at UIW.
