Willie Nelson Nobody’s done it like him since

We were burning one down and watching cartoons in a Dallas motel one Saturday morning about 30 years ago. (Not to digress, but not too long ago we were burning one down once again and, once again, watching cartoons on a Saturday morning. The only difference was we were in his fabulous new bus with a plasma TV and Willie was surfing the web.) Anyway, back in Dallas, I mentioned to Willie that some people thought the idea of "turning the other cheek" was a notion prevelant in the time of Jesus. That if Jesus hadn’t popularized the idea, someone else would have. It was just in the air, so to speak. So in that Dallas mist, I wondered to Willie whether we really needed Django Reindhardt to bring the guitar to the forefront of jazz -- meaning, since it was "in the air", so to speak, someone else would have done it sooner or later. Willie looked at me like I was a dunce and said, "Well, nobody’s done it like him since!" I’ve said it before, Happy Birthday, Willie. Nobody’s done it like you -- and never will. hp
I have every album Willie has recorded. There is just something about Willie that has drawn me to his songs, voice and personality. I have a Family Album Compiled by Lana Nelson, Copyrighted in 1980, I wouldn’t take a farm in Arkansas for. She did it to show her daddy how much she loved him and I keep it for the same reason. Tell Willie HAPPY BIRTHDAY from one of his many girls that has loved him a long time.
It was a hot August day in Baytown, Texas probably around 1973-74. A crowd of Eastside fans were gathered at the old Baytown Drive-In for a spur of the moment concert of what we thought would be some local bands. We had been rockin to the music all afternoon when some talk of Willie and his band showing up started floating around. We all thought yeah right. It was around 5:00 PM and we were starting to wind down when we saw a white BMW convertible slowly driving up the dusty shell road to the stage. A motley crew of what looked like a bunch of old ranch hands pilled out and some guy with a cowboy hat on and a red bandana tied around his neck walks up on stage and starts singing Whiskey River. Yep it was Willie and his gang. They played for about an hour or so, climbed back in the Beamer and rode off into the sunset towards Houston. We all just stood there AWE STRUCK!!! There is no one more real then "Willie"
Law Legislators Must Take Away Most Appointments by the Governor

Every year they try to modify the Texas Constitution in some ways, so why don’t legislators attempt to take away some of the main powers of the governor?
Most Texans don’t know it, but the state constitution was developed by our founders to make certain government does NOT get too big and powerful.
Consequently, the position of governor supposedly is one of the weaker positions in state government. So, why do some people want the job so badly?

My story about Willie’s 60th and party crashing in general is at austinative.com
Guess I started listening to Willie in the 70’s. Being from Kankakee, my favorite song is "City of New Orleans". I’ve moved various times so my theme song is "On the Road Again"; I even use this theme in my email and license plate: sjsroad ! Where ever I work, I put a photo of Willie on my office door so folks always know where to find me. When ever I need some comfort or a soothing sound...........I just put a Willie CD in and I’m transported to a peaceful state of mind.

Well it seems I’ve always managed to miss Willie.
I used to pass by Floore’s Country Store on my many drives back & forth between Bandera & San Antonio. I always saw the name on the sign - "Willie Nelson & Family". For some reason I never stopped.
I came close to seeing him once, in austin at SXSW a few years ago. Real close. But the people outside Austin Music Hall stopped me because I had a camera. I promised not to use it but they refused to let me in. I asked if i could leave it with them but they said they couldn’t promise it would be there afterward. I watched sadly as two of my friends went inside and I was only able to walk away.

The first time I heard Willie sing I was at the lowest point of my life. It was 1981, I was suddenly single, with two children, no job and 1500 hundred miles from any family. I heard this song on a jukebox and had no idea who was singing but from that day and still today there is no one like Willie. I had the pleasure of meeting Willie in 1985 and found him to be the nicest person I have ever met. I have been to more of his concerts than I can count and enjoyed every single one. They just don’t come any better than Willie. He is truly the BEST. Your music has helped me through many rocky years. Happy Birthday Willie. Keep on singing. Love you.
